Over the last few weeks, we’ve been having a pie contest, to see who could come up with a new flavor of pot pie for our weekly specials. I will admit, we had a lot more entries than I anticipated. The winning pie will be featured on next week’s menu, and the creator of the winning pie will receive a $20 gift card to The Tomato Vine cafe. 

After much debate (arguing), we whittled the entries down to three runners-up, then took it head-to-head in a taste test. Before we get into that, here are some honorable mentions for pot pie ideas, which you may or may not see in our future menus:

-Spinach and Artichoke Chicken Pot Pie

-Reuben

-Cranberry Brie, and Chicken

-Tater Tot Hotdish

…And the three finalists are:

– Steak, Ale & Mushroom

– Breakfast Pie with Potatoes & Bacon

– Empanada Picadillo

 

We tasted… we debated… but ultimately, we kept coming back to “taste” the same pie, because it was so good. That winner is… the Breakfast Pot Pie! This pie was not only delicious, but it got extra points for being an idea that was from a different meal time altogether.
